Blogger conflicts with Google Apps
Background
I was playing with Google Apps a while ago before I decided to migrate my existing CMS system to a Google Blogger account. Things were fine during testing with a subdomain, but once I decided to move it to the www domain, things started going wrong.
The error
You keep getting "Another blog is already hosted at this address." when you try to push blogger to use the primary domain.
The solution
- Go to your domain registrar and create (or change if already existing) the CNAME named "www" and point it to "ghs.google.com".
- Log in to Google Apps and create a new account if you do not have one.
- Go to Dashboard > Add more services > Web Pages
- Go to Dashboard > Web Pages > Change URL
- Assign the CNAME subdomain that has been giving the error message in Blogger as the address you want to publish to. (In my case it will be www)
- Create a simple webpage to confirm that the address was indeed working.
- Go to Dashboard > Web Pages > Disable Web Pages
- Register your domain with blogger now that it should no longer display the error!
