Mozilla Firefox 3 Instant Back

Do you want the back button to function instantaneously with Mozilla Firefox 3? Wonder why the behaviour changed so much with Firefox 3?

The solution is enabling better caching with Firefox, and making sites use caching.

  • To enable this feature, simply type about:config into the address bar and look for the entry
browser. sessionhistory. max_total_viewers
... and change the value from -1 to 5.
Warning: This will cause Firefox to use up much more memory too, but that is a small price to pay if you have lots of memory!
  • In addition, you might want to install Bettercache to enable more sites to be cached. Be warned though, there are settings which might compromise security!

In my limited testing, I found your change only works if I also disable javascript. Further testing revealed that disabling javascript caused instant back to work even without your change.

So really, your suggested fix didn't work at all, for me. Disabling javascript did work, but that's not really acceptable.

I guess I'll have to wait for Firefox 3.1 to make javascript faster.
