IR Blaster on Windows Media Center with Starhub digital set-top box
Windows Media Center does not recognise the remote control operations used by the Starhub digital set-top boxes by default and requires you to point the remote at a IR receiver unit to learn it. However, it doesn't recognise the remote's buttons during the learning process even though one is following onscreen instructions. The solution is to simply cover the remote's emitter in between presses when asked to learn from the remote, due to the usage of a dual frequency remote system, ie...
- 1st press -> freq 1 ....... Point at IR receiver and press the button
- 2nd press -> freq 2 ..... Cover the remote and press the button
- 3rd press -> freq 1 ...... Point at IR receiver and press the button
- 55 or 56 changes to 5 only
- 256 changes to 56

have you verified that this works recently? I tried it before, but instead this time the STB didn't even recognize any signals.

Yes... I have IR blaster working with a digital STB. You might want to test first before you even proceed out of the screen where you manually learn each button.
If the button doesn't even work there, there might be some problems with your IR blaster.
test which first?
Currently I have mine setup using the method where I tell VMC that my STB has no remote, and it works somewhat well (but there's the same problem like duplicate digits)
Test the digits one by one and make sure that the STB is accepting each digit. Then proceed to test combinations of the numbers and try to relearn the numbers with problems till it is right (or at least right most of the time). My IR mode is set to "fast" and works OK.
Or alternatively, if you are adventurous, you might want to try using Mediaportal with IR server suite. There is a SCV digital preset which should work OK and is much easier to test and setup.
thanks I'll give that a shot.
I prefer to stay with VMC because I'm more familiar with it.
plus it looks better than mediaportal, heh.
