Upgrading and installing software on your TI83 Plus calculator in Vista x64
If you have ever have hardware that failed to work on Windows Vista x64, or maybe even on Vista x86, it might be time to look towards virtualization to migitate your issue. This time round, the driver responsible for communicating with my TI83 Plus calculator does not work in Vista x64 and thus I have to resort to the following steps to get them to work.
Warning! The following steps will rather time intensive and you might be better off just installing the software on another computer.
- Step 1 - Install VirtualBox available at http://www.virtualbox.org/
- Step 2 - Install Windows XP using VirtualBox
- Step 3 - Install Windows XP virtual machine additions (guest additions)
- Step 4 - Turn on USB controller in VirtualBox
Step 5 - Attach the link cable and your calculator, ignoring any issues when finding drivers on your host OS (ie the driver installation prompt of your OS doesn't matter)
Step 6 - Attach the device to VirtualBox as shown in the following screenshot- Step 7 - Install TI Connect and do what you want!
